Bankview Real Estate – Homes & Condos For Sale

Bankview, on the south-western end of Calgary, Alberta, Canada is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. The land once belonged to the Hudson Bay Company that operated the 3-D Bar Ranch. It later became home to a sandstone quarry and the Mount Royal Theatre. Building began in 1884 with some structures from that era still standing. Most of the original homes, all single-family, were completed by 1908, the same year that the neighbourhood was officially recognized. Later, during the 1950s, Bankview saw a renaissance of sorts, with some parts being rezoned to allow apartments.

This ever changing neighbourhood is now home to more than 5,000 people. Almost 90 percent of properties are apartments and condos, with most being rentals. The area is preferred by those wanting a low maintenance lifestyle combined with convenient public transportation. Calgary Transit offer service along 14th Street SW, the eastern border, and along 17th Street SW.

The Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre is one block west of Bankview. The northern border, 17th Avenue SW, is a commercial zone, filled with restaurants and small businesses. Nearby schools include Sacred Heart Elementary and Mount Royal Junior High. The private Wild Rose College of Natural Healing is in the southeast corner of Bankview.
