Britannia Real Estate – Homes & Condos For Sale
The City of Calgary annexed this south-western bit of acreage in 1910, but the actually development of Britannia didn’t begin until 1956. It soon flourished and by the end of that decade most of the homes had already been built. Being on the edge of the city, the neighborhood is the perfect blend of wide open spaces and urban conveniences. The northern edge is Britannia Drive, while the south is framed by 50th Avenue SW. To the east is Elbow Drive, and the west is framed by the Elbow River.
In the beginning this Calgary, Alberta, Canada neighbourhood consisted of single-family properties, but in later years apartments and condominiums were added. Now these types of low-maintenance homes make up roughly 20 percent of the housing inventory. Residents of Britannia tend to hang on to their properties for quite a while. Few homes are put up for sale, and when that happens there are usually a number of interested parties already waiting. About 20 percent of the housing is in the rental market, and these are available more often.
Part of the attraction is the open green space, with River Park, Elbow Park, Altadore Park and Glenmore Athletic Park offering a number of recreational options.
